The 2011 season showed great potential for us in the coming years. Although we finished 7-8, the program’s second highest win total in a season, we were just 5 goals away from a 10-5 finish. We proved we can compete and we hope to build on this as we take on the 2012 season!
At the end of the season, four Hartwick players garnered All-Conference honors. Junior Brittany LaVaute, Freshman Brittany McCabe, and Freshman Morgan Galipeau earned Honorable Mention honors while Junior Hannah Kennedy was selected to the Sportswoman of the Year team. It was LaVaute’s second appearance on the All-Conference team after leading the team in caused turnovers (22) and was third in both ground balls (32) and draw controls (26). McCabe made her first appearance on the team after finishing her rookie season with 43 goals and 17 assists for 60 points, leading the team in all three categories. She also led all Empire 8 freshmen in goals scored, assists, and points in conference play, while also being named team MVP. Galipeau also made her All-Conference debut after starting 13 games in her first season at Hartwick. She ranked 4th on the team in groundballs (31) and tied for fourth in caused turnovers (14). Kennedy was elected the team’s representative for the Women’s Lacrosse Sportsman of the Year Team for the second straight year. This award honors a student-athlete who competes with honor and integrity. Congrats girls!!
This summer, our team was named to the IWLCA Academic Squad. This award recognizes teams who have achieved a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or above for the 2010-2011 academic year. We couldn’t be more proud of our girls; only a quarter of all D3 programs received such an honor!
We have all been hard at work this summer and can’t wait to start up the 2011-2012 school year! The campus is starting to buzz with excitement as students return in time for classes on Tuesday. Soon fall ball will be underway!
